Potato Prep & Plant

I did some work a few days ago to wake up the winter beds and prepare them for spring.

I have also already cut and dusted the seed potatoes with sulfur to prevent rotting.

Today, I finished turning under the cover crop growing in another area of the garden.  I removed some soil to make room for compost and soil amendments.  Then, I spaced the seed potatoes about 12in apart in all directions and covered them with a few inches of compost.

Three other families have joined me in this potato venture, sort of like a CSA here at the “Lafferty Farm.”
Here are pictures for kids and those interested in the process:

Removed 1/2 the soil, added soil ammendments, spaced prepared seed potatoes and covered with 3in compost

Starting the process again in another area of the yard. Here the cover crop is hairy vetch.

I let the hens out to keep me company!
